Founded in 2008, BizCover disrupted the insurance market by creating an online service to simplify comparing and buying business insurance from some of Australia’s leading insurers. To date, over one million business insurance policies have been sold through the BizCover platform across Australia, New Zealand, and the US. BizCover also provides market-leading solutions to the General Insurance Broking Industry through their BizCover for Brokers and ExpressCover brands. Innovation is at the heart of BizCover, frequently incorporating digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and automation across its platform.
The Challenge
BizCover, Australia’s largest online business insurance provider, was facing a significant challenge in connecting data from various sources. The company's team of engineers had to build unique connectors using their own code, each requiring 40 to 80 hours of engineering time. This approach initially worked when connecting and syncing data from their database and Google Analytics. However, as the number of data sources increased, the task became overwhelming. BizCover needed to pull data from over 20 data sources into its centralized Snowflake data warehouse, with each source requiring its own connector. The company’s data engineers were managing this largely manual process, and BizCover needed to disseminate the insights they were gaining from the data across the core business more efficiently.
The Solution
In search of a solution to their data connectivity challenge, BizCover's Information Management team turned to Fivetran, a recommendation from Snowflake. After a successful proof-of-concept pilot run, the team found Fivetran's platform easy to use and the onboarding process straightforward. Fivetran also provided excellent support and documentation, answering all questions around data security. With Fivetran, the BizCover team was able to set up a connector in just 4-8 hours, a 90% decrease in time and cost. Fivetran’s turn-key automated alerts also minimized the risk of reporting or acting on inaccurate data. This allowed the team to focus on using the data instead of building their pipelines and connectors.
