About The Customer
908 Devices is a Boston-based company founded in 2012 with the goal of making chemical and biomolecular detection easier. The company designs and builds portable analytics devices used for multiple purposes, including biopharmaceuticals research and forensics. With more than 200 employees, 908 Devices holds 79 patents and has 2100 installed devices across 42 countries. Its customers use the devices to rapidly detect, identify, and monitor chemicals for critical-to-life applications. For instance, first responders rely on these devices to detect chemical threats and explosives, where human lives are endangered and there is no time to spare.
The Challenge
908 Devices, a Boston-based company that designs and builds portable analytics devices for chemical and biomolecular detection, faced a challenge in improving its operational efficiency. With over 200 employees and 2100 installed devices across 42 countries, the company needed to optimize its internal processes to quickly book orders and reduce delays in customer handoffs from sales to post-sales teams. The sales and field application scientist (FAS) teams required up-to-the-minute, accurate information on orders and customers to coordinate customer communications and meetings. However, they found themselves constantly switching between different systems and navigating manual processes to gather necessary customer data, which resulted in delays in providing timely post-sales support.
The Solution
To address this challenge, 908 Devices evaluated various integration solutions to connect data sources and automate its business processes. The company eventually chose MuleSoft Composer, a no-code integration solution that’s part of Salesforce Customer 360 product portfolio. The Salesforce admin at 908 Devices used pre-built connectors in Composer to connect several systems, creating a single view of the customer and automating business processes. For instance, when a sales rep marks a deal closed in Sales Cloud, Composer automatically sends the opportunity details to NetSuite to start the order fulfillment process and a Slack notification to the sales and FAS teams. As more teams across the company start to use Salesforce, 908 Devices plans to integrate more systems and automate processes across different departments.

Predictive Maintenance for Industrial Chillers
For global leaders in the industrial chiller manufacturing, reliability of the entire production process is of the utmost importance. Chillers are refrigeration systems that produce ice water to provide cooling for a process or industrial application. One of those leaders sought a way to respond to asset performance issues, even before they occur. The intelligence to guarantee maximum reliability of cooling devices is embedded (pre-alarming). A pre-alarming phase means that the cooling device still works, but symptoms may appear, telling manufacturers that a failure is likely to occur in the near future. Chillers who are not internet connected at that moment, provide little insight in this pre-alarming phase.
