The Challenge
Armanino, one of the 20 largest independent accounting and business consulting firms in the United States, faced a common challenge among large professional services companies: managing office space for a mobile workforce without overspending on expensive building leases. The firm operates in 16 office locations in 15 major urban centers, deploying specialized professionals wherever needed. The challenge was to ensure office space was always available for its highly mobile workforce but avoid overspending on underutilized space. The firm's second largest cost after labor was rent, and the traditional office model was not reflecting the increasingly agile work styles. The firm also faced issues with its mobile workers finding available workspace in different offices, leading to inefficiencies and disruptions in the office schedule.
The Solution
Armanino developed the Workspace Scheduler mobile app using Microsoft Power Apps to solve its office space issues. The app was created by an Armanino Power Apps expert and tested by a dedicated team. The app provides every staff member with fast, accurate space availability and reservation capability enhanced with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft 365 Users, and SQL Server connectors. The back end of the app was built using Microsoft Azure SQL Database, hosting images of office layouts with Azure Blob storage. The app allows any Armanino worker willing to share office space to indicate when their space is free, and any worker on the road can find and reserve that space ahead of time. The app was developed in a matter of weeks, using an agile approach.

Hydro One Leads the Way In Smart Meter Development
In 2010, Ontario’s energy board mandated that time-of-use (TOU) pricing for consumers be available for all consumers on a regulated price plan. To meet this requirement, Hydro One needed to quickly deploy a smart meter and intelligent communications network solution to meet the provincial government’s requirement at a low cost. The network needed to cover Hydro One’s expansive service territory, which has a land mass twice the size of Texas, and its customers live in a mix of urban, rural, and remote areas, some places only accessible by air, rail, boat or snowmobile.
