About The Customer
BSA Limited is an Australian technical services contracting firm that is redefining services and capabilities around IoT. The firm’s network of subject matter experts, multi-disciplined engineers, and strategic partners enables BSA to bring together the latest and best technologies available from around the world. This strong collaboration and integration of sustainability practices across the entire organization and service solutions are driving its leadership in bringing holistic smart building solutions to a diverse range of clients in the built environment. BSA has deep roots in the building management market, with automation teams across Australia with capability across mechatronics, electrical, mechanical, and software engineering. It is an industry leader in the building and asset management space.
The Challenge
Facility owners and operators face the challenge of controlling the costs associated with owning, managing, and maintaining a building. Energy usage is a significant concern, with one-third of non-fixed operating expenses going towards maintaining heating, cooling, lights, and computers. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that about 30% of this is wasted due to inefficiency. Maintenance is also a costly prospect, with estimates of more than $2 per square foot on repairs and maintenance (not including labor). A 10-story, 150,000-square-foot building can cost $300,000 per year or more. The Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly changing the way buildings and building systems are connected and managed, opening up building automation to a broader property market.
The Solution
BSA Limited and Software AG have entered into a strategic partnership to co-develop a solution accelerator for building management in Australia. With Software AG’s Cumulocity IoT platform for device management and streaming analytics, TrendMiner self-service analytics, and webMethods.io cloud integration, BSA can connect buildings, systems, and sensors. This enables facility owners and operators to connect, monitor, analyze, and control the systems in their buildings, saving money and time while creating a healthier and happier environment. BSA will be using Cumulocity IoT in conjunction with its building management solutions for increasing operational efficiency and energy savings through technology. By making a building a smart building, everything is equipped with IoT sensors, and the data is coordinated, managed, and controlled for specific purposes.

Energy Saving & Power Monitoring System
Recently a university in Taiwan was experiencing dramatic power usage increases due to its growing number of campus buildings and students. Aiming to analyze their power consumption and increase their power efficiency across 52 buildings, the university wanted to build a power management system utilizing web-based hardware and software. With these goals in mind, they contacted Advantech to help them develop their system and provide them with the means to save energy in the years to come.

Intelligent Building Automation System and Energy Saving Solution
One of the most difficult problems facing the world is conserving energy in buildings. However, it is not easy to have a cost-effective solution to reduce energy usage in a building. One solution for saving energy is to implement an intelligent building automation system (BAS) which can be controlled according to its schedule. In Indonesia a large university with a five floor building and 22 classrooms wanted to save the amount of energy being used.
