About The Customer
Opus is Israel’s largest post-production house, with three locations and a significant number of staff and editors. It has been an Avid-driven facility since its founding in 1993, and has evolved as a post-production destination for regional and international film and TV production. Opus is home to the award-winning dramatic TV series When Heroes Fly and many of the country’s popular reality shows, including Master Chef, X Factor, Israel’s Got Talent, and the Israeli version of American Idol. The facility is also involved in film restoration for broadcasters and archivers, making it a significant part of the drama and feature film industry.
The Challenge
Opus, Israel’s largest post-production house, faced the challenge of supporting customers with high-bandwidth applications and shared workflows. With three locations and a staggering number of staff and editors, Opus needed to keep up with the demands of high-resolution media projects, including 4K. The facility had been an Avid-driven facility since its inception in 1993, and had evolved as a post-production destination for regional and international film and TV production. However, as customers began asking for shared storage and more collaborative workflows to facilitate high-resolution, bandwidth-demanding applications like 4K, Opus needed to upgrade its technology.
The Solution
Opus turned to Avid once again for a solution, implementing a workflow powered by MediaCentral featuring Avid NEXIS software-defined storage integrated with Avid creative tools. This solution was designed to support bandwidth-demanding, high-resolution media projects including 4K. The Avid NEXIS | PRO and Avid NEXIS | E4 storage engines enabled uncompressed 4K coloring, a first for the facility. This also brought time savings and greater efficiency, allowing for simultaneous editing functions and instant media sharing. The new system also made it possible for Opus to move from one suite to another, a process that was previously impossible due to the hundreds of terabytes of material involved.
