Baleària is the leading shipping group in Spain with over 25 years of experience in maritime transport for passengers, goods, and vehicles. The company operates daily routes connecting the Peninsula with the Balearic Islands, Ceuta, Melilla, and the Canary Islands. It is also the only company that connects the four Balearic Islands. Internationally, it operates in North Africa (Morocco and Algeria), the south of France, and links the USA with the Bahamas. In 2022, it transported 4.77 million passengers, 1.2 million vehicles, and 7 million linear meters of cargo.
Baleària, a leading shipping group in Spain, was facing challenges in managing its ship and crew procedures. The company was heavily reliant on manual tasks involving physical documents, which was not only time-consuming but also prone to errors. The company needed to control the validity of the ships’ mandatory certificates based on current legislation, which was a complex task due to the vast number of ships under its management. The traditional methods of operation were hindering the company's efficiency and productivity. Furthermore, the company was seeking ways to improve its work methodology in terms of developing its maritime operations and control of the ships’ documentation.
Baleària decided to automate some of its ship and crew management procedures using the AuraQuantic platform. The digitalization of these procedures helped to eliminate manual tasks involving physical documents, thereby reducing the chances of errors and improving efficiency. The AuraQuantic platform was used to control the validity of the ships’ mandatory certificates based on current legislation, ensuring compliance and reducing the risk of penalties. The platform also provided an opportunity for Baleària to adopt technologies with high strategic value such as Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), process automation, big data analysis, and cybersecurity. This innovation project served as an example for all companies in the maritime sector, showing how digitization can lead to safer, connected, efficient, and sustainable vessels.
