About The Customer
The BSA Group is a leading provider of asset management solutions across Australia. They have expanded their services to include building integration and automation, energy management, Internet of Things (IoT), and renewable energy. BSA is committed to being an indispensable client partner, providing solutions that optimize building management and conserve energy. They have a team of mechatronics engineers, electrical engineers, software engineers, refrigeration technicians, and electricians across Australia. BSA is redefining their services and capabilities around IoT, using Cumulocity IoT and Software AG’s webMethods.io integration technology to connect buildings, systems, and sensors to collect and analyze new information.
The Challenge
BSA Group, a leading provider of asset management solutions in Australia, faced several challenges in their quest to optimize building management. They needed to connect disparate systems and sensors in buildings to collect and analyze new information and find efficiencies. They also needed to consolidate this information into a single view for customers and provide integration and connectivity between disparate and proprietary building systems and vendors. The goal was to reduce energy and maintenance costs for customers while addressing new revenue opportunities in the market.
The Solution
BSA Group partnered with Software AG to implement a solution that included Cumulocity IoT, webMethods API management, Apama analytics, and Trend Miner. This technology stack allowed BSA to connect buildings, systems, and sensors to collect and analyze new information. The solution enabled BSA to bring together disparate systems within a building with energy savings in mind. The solution also allowed for data-driven maintenance for HVAC units, monitoring their performance to see if they were degrading, faulty, needed repair, or replacement. The solution also enabled spot trading in response to electricity market signals, allowing the delivery of excess energy back into the local electricity grid at the optimum price-time.

Intelligent Building Automation System and Energy Saving Solution
One of the most difficult problems facing the world is conserving energy in buildings. However, it is not easy to have a cost-effective solution to reduce energy usage in a building. One solution for saving energy is to implement an intelligent building automation system (BAS) which can be controlled according to its schedule. In Indonesia a large university with a five floor building and 22 classrooms wanted to save the amount of energy being used.
