About The Customer
The Electric Racing Academy (ERA) is the world's first all-electic junior formula racing series. Headed by Beth Georgiou, Rudi Penders, and Dieter Vanswijgenhoven, its mission is to transform motorsports by making it more sustainable, equitable, and accessible. ERA kicked off its first single seater racing series in 2022 with events across Europe. The organization is behind the world's first fully electric entry class single seater racing series and is radically transforming motorsports. ERA aims to democratize the industry by creating a data-sharing, crowdsourcing environment that attracts innovators.
The Challenge
The Electric Racing Academy (ERA) was faced with the challenge of modernizing the motorsport industry by making it more sustainable, equitable, and accessible. The organization aimed to bring racing into a tech-driven, green era by providing real-time insights for live coaching to drivers. ERA also desired to create a cost-efficient racing platform to boost junior e-racer careers. The mission was to use technology to lower barriers of entry and promote accessibility. There was also pressure to find a robust IoT platform that would ensure the cars operate at peak performance and provide insights to evolve design.
The Solution
ERA partnered with Software AG and implemented their Cumulocity IoT platform and Thin Edge to transform their racing cars into connected vehicles. The Cumulocity IoT Thin Edge device, installed in a box behind the driver's seat, communicates with the cloud using 4G, continuously streaming valuable data about speed, acceleration, torque, RPM, temperature, and regenerated power from braking. This real-time data is interpreted for the driver, enabling better in-car racing decisions. Coaches can also provide real-time feedback on weather conditions, and tactical decisions like braking and car handling. Additionally, the 4G connection allows everything to be captured in the cloud, making data easy to integrate into new technology. ERA also plans to launch a fan app powered by telemetry data, providing access to vehicle performance information, driver video feeds, and live stats.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic. In addition to engines for the local market, the Yaroslavl plant will also produce spare parts. Mercedes-Benz Russia and his partner needed a service partner in order to ensure the operation of these lines in a maintenance partnership arrangement. The challenges included coordinating the entire maintenance management operation, in particular inspections, corrective and predictive maintenance activities, and the optimizing spare parts management. Siemens developed a customized maintenance solution that includes all electronic and mechanical maintenance activities (Integral Plant Maintenance).

Monitoring of Pressure Pumps in Automotive Industry
A large German/American producer of auto parts uses high-pressure pumps to deburr machined parts as a part of its production and quality check process. They decided to monitor these pumps to make sure they work properly and that they can see any indications leading to a potential failure before it affects their process.
