The Challenge

Ikone, a company specializing in the design, development, and customization of textiles for companies and organizations, was looking to measure and reduce its carbon footprint. Despite having only 15 employees, the company was not driven by legal obligations but by a voluntary and transparent Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approach. The textile industry, being the second most polluting industry globally, has significant social and environmental impacts throughout the production chain. Ikone, as a player in this market, recognized its share of responsibility and aimed to act beyond legal constraints. The company's challenge was to accurately measure its carbon impact and structure an environmental policy to reduce emissions in the long term.

The Solution

Ikone partnered with Greenly to carry out their first carbon assessment. Greenly's measurement solution was simple, intuitive, and allowed Ikone to monitor their impacts in real time. Greenly's solution also offered life cycle analyses, which helped Ikone go further in their measurement process before taking targeted corrective action. The first assessment provided a quick overview of Ikone's carbon impact, which included direct, energy-related, and indirect emissions caused by service providers and services used by the company. Ikone then established a responsible purchasing policy and began a continuous search for solutions to reduce the impact of the clothes they buy. A life cycle assessment was also initiated with Greenly to better understand the impact of their flagship products at each stage of their production.

Operational Impact

The partnership with Greenly has allowed Ikone to gain a clear understanding of its carbon impact and to structure its environmental policy. The company has been able to identify the main sources of its emissions and has established a responsible purchasing policy to reduce its carbon footprint. Ikone is also conducting a life cycle assessment to better understand the impact of its flagship products at each stage of their production. This will provide precise data to guide their carbon plan in a concrete and efficient manner. Furthermore, Ikone is working on ways to estimate the carbon footprint of different products and communicate this to their customers, thereby supporting them in making more sustainable choices. The company is now on a trajectory towards Net Zero emissions, in line with the COP21 objectives of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
