About The Customer
Istobal is an industry leader in lubricating equipment with more than 60 years’ experience. Founded by Ismael Tomás Alacreu in Spain in March 1950, it started out as a small vehicle repair workshop. After producing its first lubricating machine and achieving great success with the product, the company decided to change its business plan. The company decided to exit from the repairs market and fully enter into manufacturing lubricating equipment, giving rise as a result to a business that has become an industry leader. The company has diversified into washing products for motor cars, lorries, and buses. It now employs over 500 people and exports products to more than 62 countries worldwide. Constantly evolving and utilising a management model in tune with modern methods has helped Istobal to become a dominant company in the sector, adapting closely to technological advances and continually developing its product line.
The Challenge
Istobal, a leader in the car, automobile, lorry and bus washing tools sector, was facing a need for Business Intelligence (BI) tools for fast, agile, and easy tracking and better controls. The company was in the midst of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) migration project, which made the need for a BI tool even more necessary. The company needed a tool that could integrate with databases from different systems and some Excel flat files, and that was easy to use and develop. The company was also looking for a tool that could provide better and more efficient information analysis to drive decision-making.
The Solution
Istobal chose QlikView as their BI tool. QlikView was deployed to integrate databases from diverse systems and some Excel flat files. The company found QlikView to be a dynamic and easy-to-use tool. At present, a QlikView server has been installed and 45 users are working with the BI software. The project was initiated in April 2010 and was completed with the acquisition of five personal licences. QlikView has been deployed at the head offices in L’Alcudia in Valencia and at branches in various regions of Spain which have access to it, as well as at Istobal branch offices in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the United States. All these users can make the most of the benefits of QlikView remotely via head office and the QlikView server.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic. In addition to engines for the local market, the Yaroslavl plant will also produce spare parts. Mercedes-Benz Russia and his partner needed a service partner in order to ensure the operation of these lines in a maintenance partnership arrangement. The challenges included coordinating the entire maintenance management operation, in particular inspections, corrective and predictive maintenance activities, and the optimizing spare parts management. Siemens developed a customized maintenance solution that includes all electronic and mechanical maintenance activities (Integral Plant Maintenance).

Monitoring of Pressure Pumps in Automotive Industry
A large German/American producer of auto parts uses high-pressure pumps to deburr machined parts as a part of its production and quality check process. They decided to monitor these pumps to make sure they work properly and that they can see any indications leading to a potential failure before it affects their process.
