About The Customer
The customer in this case study is Lippulaiva, a property owned by Citycon, a leading Nordic owner of city centers. Lippulaiva is a large property with a geothermal energy plant for heating and cooling. The property aimed to become the most environmentally responsible city center in Europe. To achieve this, they partnered with Schneider Electric to implement an intelligent and energy-efficient real estate solution. The goal was to manage energy resources efficiently, reduce CO2 emissions, and contribute to environmental sustainability.
The Challenge
The case study revolves around the challenge of managing energy resources efficiently in a large property, Lippulaiva. The property, owned by Citycon, a top Nordic owner of city centers, had a large geothermal energy plant for heating and cooling. However, the challenge was to reduce CO2 emissions and make the city center the most environmentally responsible and friendly in Europe. The need was to control and optimize energy flows, combining building technology and business information, and continuously monitor all building technology systems.
The Solution
The solution to the challenge was the implementation of a virtual power plant solution. This solution utilized solar energy, energy storage, and demand flexibility to manage the energy resources of the property. The intelligent energy system was designed to control and optimize energy flows, ensuring efficient use of energy. The digital user interface was integrated with the building technology and business information, providing a comprehensive view of the energy usage and efficiency. The platform service, powered by AI, was set up to continuously monitor all building technology systems. This allowed for real-time adjustments and optimization, leading to significant energy savings and reduction in CO2 emissions.
