About The Customer
Rexam, headquartered in the United Kingdom is one of the world’s top five consumer packaging companies and the largest global manufacturer of beverage cans making over 60 billion cans a year. With sales in 2011 of £4.7 billion, Rexam is performing well in a challenging economic climate. In presenting the 2011 results, Rexam pointed to a better than expected performance in its beverage can business, especially in Europe, and a new focus on cost management. Rexam`s Beverage Can Europe & Asia business based in Luton has 22 factories in Europe. This business with a reputation for innovation also has manufacturing plants in China, India and Egypt, and a joint venture in South Korea.
The Challenge
Rexam Beverage Can Europe & Asia, the largest can manufacturer in Europe, faced a significant challenge in extracting business data from SAP and other data sources to create ad hoc reports. The company's executives needed to highlight key accounts and drill down into products, countries, and sales offices. The main business challenge was that Rexam had huge business value locked into its data sources but lacked a set of applications to extract it to solve business issues immediately. Reports could take one person five working days to compile which often caused issues for executives working to tight deadlines. The company needed a user-friendly business intelligence (BI) tool to avoid the need for users to download huge quantities of data to produce Excel spreadsheets over which managers had little control.
The Solution
Rexam deployed QlikView initially for its executives to monitor the performance of key accounts by extracting data from SAP, Oracle, and Excel data sources. By the end of 2011 around 10 applications had been created. QlikView can sit on top of any data source including Oracle and Excel as well as SAP and provide instant reports using any parameters needed. It’s easy for QlikView to sit in the middle of a business serving multiple users with data. Once set up, users can build their own reports to business questions with ease, leading to multiple business discoveries. Since its initial deployment of QlikView in 2011 for monitoring key accounts, Rexam IT has worked with two other QlikTech partners Atos and Quick Intelligence on new ways of adding business value to Rexam.

Predictive Maintenance for Industrial Chillers
For global leaders in the industrial chiller manufacturing, reliability of the entire production process is of the utmost importance. Chillers are refrigeration systems that produce ice water to provide cooling for a process or industrial application. One of those leaders sought a way to respond to asset performance issues, even before they occur. The intelligence to guarantee maximum reliability of cooling devices is embedded (pre-alarming). A pre-alarming phase means that the cooling device still works, but symptoms may appear, telling manufacturers that a failure is likely to occur in the near future. Chillers who are not internet connected at that moment, provide little insight in this pre-alarming phase.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic. In addition to engines for the local market, the Yaroslavl plant will also produce spare parts. Mercedes-Benz Russia and his partner needed a service partner in order to ensure the operation of these lines in a maintenance partnership arrangement. The challenges included coordinating the entire maintenance management operation, in particular inspections, corrective and predictive maintenance activities, and the optimizing spare parts management. Siemens developed a customized maintenance solution that includes all electronic and mechanical maintenance activities (Integral Plant Maintenance).
