About The Customer
One of the pioneers in the engineering sector in India, S and B Engineers and Constructors LLP (S&B India) relies quite heavily on its progressive IT ecosystem to offer a wide array of high-end engineering and allied services. From providing specialized functional designs to engineering services including basic and detail engineering, Front End Engineering Design (FEED), procurement assistance, project management consultation, and construction supervision, S&B India has executed hundreds of projects globally across refining, petrochemical, chemical, water treatment, and pharmaceutical industries. Given the scale, complexities, and criticality of the engineering and design services that S&B India offers to crucial capital goods, basic materials, and energy sectors, data integrity and high availability are paramount for the organization.
The Challenge
S&B India's existing setup had served them well until now. As their workload grew, they were looking to refresh their IT infrastructure to be scalable for at least the next five years. Hence, they knew hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) was the answer. Given the scale, complexities, and criticality of the engineering and design services that S&B India offers to crucial capital goods, basic materials, and energy sectors, data integrity and high availability are paramount for the organization. Until recently S&B India ran on a conventional setup of HPE servers with SAN storage and several applications including CAD/CAM and Oracle database running on VMware® clusters. As the organizational workload continued to rapidly grow, S&B India was overwhelmed with IT performance issues. Given the resource requirement creeping up on S&B India's IT infrastructure and network, its far-site, on-premises disaster recovery setup wasn't keeping up with the scale. Space constraints to continuously add infrastructure and lack of centralized server control added to the woes.
The Solution
After thorough deliberations and extraneous testing, S&B India adopted the HCI platform from HPE SimpliVity that integrated S&B India's server, storage, and virtualized applications in just two nodes deployed at their data center at Noida, India. HPE SimpliVity also helped S&B India to augment its off-site disaster recovery with a single node at its Bengaluru, Karnataka office. S&B India consolidated its server compute, storage capacities, and 25-odd applications running on VMs into three all-flash, integrated nodes of HPE SimpliVity-two deployed at Noida, backed up with one node at Bengaluru for disaster recovery. Built-in backup and bandwidth-efficient replication of HPE SimpliVity empowers the IT resiliency of S&B India against risks of data loss and expensive business downtimes. The always-on deduplication and compression features of HPE SimpliVity are slated to reduce S&B India's storage and backup capacity utilization by 10X, future-proofing its scalability considerably.

Predictive Maintenance for Industrial Chillers
For global leaders in the industrial chiller manufacturing, reliability of the entire production process is of the utmost importance. Chillers are refrigeration systems that produce ice water to provide cooling for a process or industrial application. One of those leaders sought a way to respond to asset performance issues, even before they occur. The intelligence to guarantee maximum reliability of cooling devices is embedded (pre-alarming). A pre-alarming phase means that the cooling device still works, but symptoms may appear, telling manufacturers that a failure is likely to occur in the near future. Chillers who are not internet connected at that moment, provide little insight in this pre-alarming phase.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic. In addition to engines for the local market, the Yaroslavl plant will also produce spare parts. Mercedes-Benz Russia and his partner needed a service partner in order to ensure the operation of these lines in a maintenance partnership arrangement. The challenges included coordinating the entire maintenance management operation, in particular inspections, corrective and predictive maintenance activities, and the optimizing spare parts management. Siemens developed a customized maintenance solution that includes all electronic and mechanical maintenance activities (Integral Plant Maintenance).
