About The Customer
The Wisconsin Early Autism Project (WEAP) is a private organization that receives state funding for preschool-aged children with an IQ over 35. The organization uses techniques developed by O. Ivar Lovaas, Ph.D., of UCLA for in-home behavioral therapy for autistic children. WEAP sends specially trained therapists into the homes of autistic children for 35 to 40 hours of intensive instruction every week. The results have been impressive with almost half of WEAP’s students moving into the “average” range for social and adaptive skills and showing IQ increases of about 45 points after just one year of treatment. Many of its children improve enough to be mainstreamed into regular schools and lead normal lives. The organization has six locations and employs 800 people.
The Challenge
The Wisconsin Early Autism Project (WEAP) was facing a challenge in tracking staff hours to prepare accurate paychecks due to the rotation of therapists and many of them working part-time. The organization was using three separate information systems - Sage 100 ERP, a custom SQL database, and The Medical Manager. However, none of these systems were integrated, leading to a time-consuming and error-prone process of data entry for billing, payroll balancing, and payroll system. The challenge was to integrate these separate information systems and automate business processes through one dependable platform.
The Solution
The solution to WEAP's challenge was the Sage 100 Premium ERP financial and Payroll modules. Upgrading to the Sage 100 Premium ERP version provided the link needed for electronic communications between the in-house developed database and the Sage 100 ERP payroll system. The conversion of its legacy Sage 100 ERP system to the SQL version proved to be easier than anticipated. The Sage 100 ERP system is user-friendly and easy for staff members to learn, requiring very little troubleshooting. The organization also plans to explore SAP Crystal Reports for Sage 100 ERP for advanced reporting functions in the future.
