The municipality of Svedala is a public organization in Sweden that provides a high standard of social welfare and care for its inhabitants. This is achieved through an extensive child-care system, modern schools, and good care. The municipality employs approximately 1,300 people who work in different ways to provide services for the 18,000 inhabitants of Svedala. In an official performance report (Kommunkompassen), Svedala received 578.5 points out of 800, with a clear interaction between politicians and administrators being one of the top-ranking areas.

Svedala Municipality was facing the challenge of controlling operating costs without jeopardizing service levels to constituents. They needed to analyze information from disparate data sources and deploy a solution that did not require support from expensive consultants. As a result of a major reorganization in the healthcare sector, managers with increased budget responsibility needed a tool that was easy to use. Previously, managers had been forced to manually print out and compare data from different systems to be able to review all costs associated with any given decision.

Svedala Municipality deployed QlikView to 50 employees across 2 functional areas and had its first application up and running in 1 week. With QlikView pulling data from Excel and various financial and administration systems, Svedala Municipality analyzes budget, cost, staff and contract information — all with a focus on reducing operating costs. With QlikView Server, Svedala Municipality employees work from a single version of the truth through a common dashboard. QlikView is primarily used to coordinate and analyze the municipality systems for economy and staff administration. Today, QlikView automatically links these systems and presents the costs in just seconds.
