About The Customer
American Family Insurance (AmFam) is a private mutual insurance company that offers a variety of consumer and commercial products, including property, casualty, life, health, and homeowners coverage, along with investment and retirement planning products and services. AmFam's corporate teams use Salesforce CRM products to generate, manage, and analyze data for a wide range of activities, from account management and customer service to business development and executive planning. Beyond corporate implementations of CRM, AmFam also supports local and regional agencies that sell AmFam products. These agencies are organized as independent contractors who are licensed to transact with end customers and incentivized to meet performance targets.
The Challenge
American Family Insurance (AmFam), a private mutual insurance company, faced challenges in providing data support to its local and regional agencies. These agencies, organized as independent contractors, are a crucial part of the AmFam data ecosystem, utilizing corporate data to optimize their sales and customer service contributions. However, the existing system was siloed and offline, making it difficult for agencies to access and analyze data. AmFam sought to improve the delivery of analytics to its agents, particularly around product availability, performance metrics, and expected business results. The challenge was to replace the siloed data sources and offline workflows with a secure portal that integrates insights into existing user interfaces (UI).
The Solution
AmFam used Tableau Embedded Analytics to create a new self-service analytics web portal, myDashboard, for agencies and corporate users. This portal integrated into the existing workflows and UI that the agencies were accustomed to, providing vital insights without disrupting their work. The myDashboard solution offered customization, allowing agencies to adapt the portal to match their branding and UI workflows. It also provided pre-built dashboards for common metrics such as revenue, premiums, new business, and retention, along with preset filtering and customizable search. This made the portal user-friendly and reduced the learning curve for non-technical users. Additionally, the solution ensured security and governance with row-level security in Tableau, enforcing data access permissions based on various roles. AmFam also adopted Tableau single sign-on, allowing users to view reports and dashboards without leaving the myDashboard UI context.
