About The Customer
Pioneer Telephone Cooperative, Inc. is a leading provider of rural telecommunications services, offering a wide range of products and services to over 150,000 subscribers in 76 communities across 30 counties in Western Oklahoma. The company provides local telephone service, high-speed internet, Ethernet transport service, digital TV, cellular, long-distance, wireless broadband, security systems, business solutions, and yellow pages advertisement. With a history spanning over 60 years, Pioneer Telephone is committed to delivering high-quality telecommunications solutions to its customers.
The Challenge
Chad Kliewer, the Information Security Officer at Pioneer Telephone, was tasked with implementing a comprehensive security plan and ensuring compliance standards across multiple departments, including corporate, telephone, and broadband services. The challenge was compounded by the absence of a centralized IT group, making it difficult to create a cohesive infrastructure. Additionally, there was no formalized scanning process in place, leading to a lack of visibility into the network assets and vulnerabilities.
The Solution
Chad implemented Rapid7's Nexpose for vulnerability management and InsightIDR for incident detection and response. Nexpose allowed Chad to identify around 6,000 network assets and numerous vulnerabilities, some of which were previously unknown. The dynamic asset groups feature in Nexpose enabled Chad to prioritize and address high-risk vulnerabilities efficiently. InsightIDR integrated seamlessly with Nexpose, providing real-time insights into user behavior and network activities. This integration helped Chad detect and remediate security policy violations, such as unauthorized email applications on mobile devices. The Insight Agent further enhanced endpoint detection and visibility, crucial for technicians working in the field.

Vodafone Hosted On AWS
Vodafone found that traffic for the applications peak during the four-month period when the international cricket season is at its height in Australia. During the 2011/2012 cricket season, 700,000 consumers downloaded the Cricket Live Australia application. Vodafone needed to be able to meet customer demand, but didn’t want to invest in additional resources that would be underutilized during cricket’s off-season.
