Klinikum Wels-Grieskirchen is the fifth-largest hospital in Austria, with 30 departments and institutes. The organization provides healthcare services to more than 75,000 patients every year, making it the principal healthcare provider of Wels, Grieskirchen, and the bordering regions in the Northern part of the nation. The hospital was faced with the challenge of implementing and managing 100 projects at once due to recent reforms in the country that mandated healthcare centers to institute process and infrastructure changes throughout all departments.
The Challenge
Klinikum Wels-Grieskirchen, the fifth-largest hospital in Austria, was faced with a significant challenge during a period of business transformation. The hospital, which cares for over 75,000 patients annually, was tasked with implementing and managing 100 projects simultaneously across its 30 departments and institutes. This was due to recent reforms in Austria that mandated healthcare centers to institute process and infrastructure changes throughout all departments. The hospital needed an agile, centralized project management tool to help organize and track company-wide efforts and help employees retrieve project-related information quickly. Prior to this, the organization had been using a SharePoint platform based on Microsoft SharePoint Foundation for document management.
The Solution
The hospital considered several solution options and ultimately chose Nintex Workflow and Nintex Forms due to several capabilities inherent in the software. The deployment and customization of the solution was managed by local Nintex partner KCS.net, chosen for its extensive domain knowledge around implementation of tailor-made business management solutions using Microsoft SharePoint and Nintex. The solution was deployed in December 2011, and within a few weeks, the first version had been rolled out. The solution, integrated with the existing SharePoint environment, helped speed up internal processes, simplify collaboration throughout the company, and increase productivity in all departments. The workflow solution enabled all employees to create templates, easily handle rights management, automatically distribute emails, and fill out ready-made forms. The solution also improved time management and team collaboration by providing a single repository for documents, projects, and tasks.

Hospital Inventory Management
The hospital supply chain team is responsible for ensuring that the right medical supplies are readily available to clinicians when and where needed, and to do so in the most efficient manner possible. However, many of the systems and processes in use at the cancer center for supply chain management were not best suited to support these goals. In order to address the challenges outlined above, the hospital sought a solution that would provide real-time inventory information with high levels of accuracy, reduce the level of manual effort required and enable data driven decision making to ensure that the right supplies were readily available to clinicians in the right location at the right time.
