挑战
Bates, the co-founder and CTO of Hearo, faced significant challenges while developing a new core feature for their remote patient monitoring platform. Initially using SignalR for messaging components, Bates encountered limitations when trying to implement a feature that allowed customers and patients to send messages to multiple or specific users, groups, channels, and locations. This issue became critical as he prepared for a tradeshow, realizing that the existing solution would not scale to meet future needs. Frustrated and in need of a quick solution, Bates turned to PubNub, a platform recommended by his developer community. PubNub's extensive client libraries and built-in complex messaging workflows provided the necessary capabilities to overcome the limitations Bates faced with SignalR.

To address the challenges faced with SignalR, Bates integrated PubNub into Hearo's platform. PubNub's extensive client libraries and built-in complex messaging workflows allowed Bates to roll out the new messaging feature overnight, saving over 80 hours of development time. This integration enabled Hearo to support real-time, multiparty messaging, ensuring that messages, alerts, and calls are sent to the right users, channels, and locations. PubNub's platform also provided a fail-safe mechanism, retaining sensor data even if systems go offline and pushing stored data once connectivity is restored. This ensured that critical information was not lost, and patients continued to receive the necessary support. Additionally, PubNub's library of SDKs allowed Hearo to confidently add new sensors, client platforms, and hardware, knowing that PubNub would support any tech stack they chose.

The hospital supply chain team is responsible for ensuring that the right medical supplies are readily available to clinicians when and where needed, and to do so in the most efficient manner possible. However, many of the systems and processes in use at the cancer center for supply chain management were not best suited to support these goals. Barcoding technology, a commonly used method for inventory management of medical supplies, is labor intensive, time consuming, does not provide real-time visibility into inventory levels and can be prone to error. In order to address the challenges outlined above, the hospital sought a solution that would provide real-time inventory information with high levels of accuracy, reduce the level of manual effort required and enable data driven decision making to ensure that the right supplies were readily available to clinicians in the right location at the right time.
