TNT N.V. is a global supplier of postal and express services to businesses and consumers worldwide. The company is headquartered in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands, and operates in over 200 countries. With around 159,000 employees globally and 68,000 employees in the Netherlands alone, TNT is the largest private employer in the Netherlands, second only to the Dutch government. In 2006, the company generated sales of €10.1 billion and recorded an operating result of €1.276 billion. The Corporate Audit Services Department of TNT, which is responsible for internal audits worldwide, is spread over two locations; 40 work at the head office in Hoofddorp, and five work in Singapore.

TNT's Corporate Audit Services Department was facing a challenge with their monthly reporting process. The department, which is responsible for internal audits worldwide, had three senior managers compiling reports for the head of the department each month. This process was time-consuming and lacked a consistent structure and uniformity, as each manager had their own method of compiling the reports. This complicated the data-merging process and the compilation of one departmental report. Additionally, all the data was manually inputted, which took a lot of time. The department was looking for a solution that would simplify the consolidation of the decentralized data, accelerate the auditing of data reliability, and present their custom-defined KPIs in a flexible and transparent manner.
解决方案
After considering both internal and external solutions, TNT opted for QlikView in the spring of 2006. The decision was based on QlikView's high flexibility, which allowed TNT to make changes to their KPIs relatively easily, and its ability to link the application to various sources. The implementation process began in the summer of 2006. The translation of the KPIs to the data in the source systems proved more time-consuming than anticipated, taking more than six months. However, making the technical link to the data and from the data to QlikView was fairly simple, taking only one to two months. After correcting some flaws that showed up as a result of QlikView’s transparency, the system went live in May 2007.

3M Gains Real-Time Insight with Cloud Solution
The company has a long track record of innovative technology solutions. For example, 3M helps its customers optimize parking operations by automating fee collection and other processes. To improve support for this rapidly expanding segment, 3M needed to automate its own data collection and reporting. The company had recently purchased the assets of parking, tolling, and automatic license plate reader businesses, and required better insight into these acquisitions. Jason Fox, Mobile Application Architect at 3M, upped the ante by volunteering to deliver the new app in one weekend. For Fox and his team, these requirements meant turning to the cloud instead of an on-premises datacenter. “My first thought was to go directly to the cloud because we needed to provide access not only to our salespeople, but to resellers who didn’t have access to our internal network,” says Fox. “The cloud just seemed like a logical choice.”
